Friday was the big day! Our family went to Union, IL for "A Day Out With Thomas." Imagine a big fair full of games, rides, food, and live shows, except EVERYTHING is about Thomas the Tank Engine! It was at a railroad museum that is also part of a functioning railway. So, along with all of the museum trains (real and model), they had a life sized, functioning Thomas engine pulling coaches that everybody got to ride on. There was a HUGE Thomas made entirely out of Legos that the kids could climb aboard for pictures. Sir Topham Hatt was available for photos, and there was the biggest Thomas shop I have ever seen. They had some really rare items along with all the standard stuff. And believe it or not, they were actually reasonably priced. Most items were slightly less than the going rate at Toys R Us. We ended up getting a couple DVDs, the special "A Day Out with Thomas" 2008 commemorative water tanker, Lady, the 60th anniversary silver Percy, and a book (Percy's Chocolate Crunch).
We all had a great time. The kids loved every part of the day, except the very long, slow drive home. I think Asher was in Heaven. He still gets the cutest smile on his face whenever we ask him if he got to ride on Thomas. The #1 spot on his "Things To Do Before I Die" list is most certainly checked off.
